Private Pay Psychiatry in Seattle
We know talking about money can feel awkward, especially when it comes to health care. You deserve complete transparency about what you'll invest and why we've chosen to be a private pay psychiatry practice in Seattle. This page explains our fee structure and how we make expert mental health care accessible even without insurance.
Why Edwards Psychiatry Chose Private Pay
Private pay allows us to focus on you instead of insurance requirements. We can spend actual time listening, adjusting your care as needed, and responding quickly between visits. Your privacy is more protected, too, with less disclosure of your sensitive health information to insurance companies and their databases.
Staying private pay also allows us to remain a small, specialized practice focused on what we do best: ADHD, anxiety, depression, and comprehensive psychiatric care with a deep understanding of BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and neurodiverse experiences.
Our Pricing Structure
Quality mental health care is an investment in your ability to feel present with your loved ones and thrive at work and home. Here's exactly what our services cost, with no hidden fees or surprises.
Psychiatric Evaluation:
$500 for 60 minutes (in-person or virtual)
All of our services begin with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, except ADHD coaching. This thorough assessment gives you diagnostic clarity about what's actually going on with your brain, whether that's ADHD, anxiety, depression, or something else entirely.
The psychiatric evaluation involves getting to know each other, discussing your current health status, medication history, psychiatric history, medical history, substance use history, developmental history, and social/familial background. Together, we'll formulate a working diagnosis and create an individualized treatment plan which may or may not include medication.
ADHD Testing:
$250 for QbCheck test + $250 for interpretation visit (in-person or virtual)
QbCheck ADHD testing is an objective, FDA-approved psychometric test available by provider referral for patients ages 6-60 years old. It helps diagnose ADHD as well as evaluate the efficacy of treatment.
An initial psychiatric evaluation must first be completed to establish care and determine if a referral for QbCheck testing is medically appropriate.
The QbCheck test is completed remotely at home, and the interpretation visit can be done in-person or virtually. This comprehensive testing goes beyond basic questionnaires to give you real answers about whether you have ADHD.
Genetic Testing Interpretation:
$250 for the interpretation visit with your provider
This visit helps you understand your unique genetic makeup and get individualized medication recommendations, ending the guessing game of what might work for your body. The test itself is billed separately through Genomind.
For more information on the cost of the test itself, please visit: https://www.genomind.com/resources/cost-and-coverage
Medication Management:
$175 for 30 minutes or $250 for 45 minutes (in-person or virtual)
Specialist prescribing focused on what works for your body and lifestyle, not one-size-fits-all approaches. We adjust and collaborate with you to find what actually helps.
This fee also includes your provider's time spent preparing for your visit, documenting your care, and managing tasks like ordering medications.
ADHD Individual Coaching:
$150 for 60 minutes (virtual)
Personalized, collaborative ADHD coaching that helps you work with your brain so you can build habits that actually stick, get better at time management and organization, and feel more in control of your day-to-day life.
Coaching services are offered by an independent contractor and are not licensed mental health services. Because coaching is not classified as a licensed healthcare service, HSA/FSA funds cannot be used to pay for these sessions.
ADHD Group Coaching:
$75 for 60 minutes (virtual)
Inclusive and affirming virtual coaching groups that provide skill-building, peer connection, and practical strategies for managing ADHD in daily life.
Forms and Letters:
Depends on Complexity
Brief forms/letters: $75-$100
Complex forms/letters: $150-$175 (requires appointment)
Includes detailed, provider-completed forms and letters such as work/school accommodations, leave of absence paperwork, and gender-affirming surgery letters.
Payment Options:
We accept Zelle (our preferred option), Venmo, credit/debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is due at time of service.
Cancellation Policy:
As many people struggle to find care, it is crucial to give at least 48 business hours' notice if you are unable to make your appointment so your slot can be given to someone else in need.
Late cancellations or no-shows are charged $150.
(New) Concierge Care:
We’re now offering a monthly membership that goes beyond standard care, providing extra access, faster replies, and a more convenient experience. Email us if you’d like to learn more.
Out-of-Network Benefits and Superbills
Being private pay does not prevent you from using your insurance. Many clients use out-of-network benefits or HSA/FSA funds to help cover services.
After each session, you can download a superbill from the Tebra Patient Portal. This itemized receipt includes the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurance company needs for out-of-network reimbursement. Depending on your plan, you may receive partial or full reimbursement for psychiatric services.
We are experienced in coding according to insurance rules and we work with insurance companies to advocate for prescription coverage, including prior authorizations and appeals when needed.
How to Check Your Benefits
Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
- Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
- What percentage does my plan cover for out-of-network mental health services?
- Do I have a deductible for out-of-network care, and have I met it?
- Is there a limit on how many sessions are covered per year?
It is your responsibility to check with your insurance to see if you have HSA/FSA funds or may qualify for partial or full reimbursement of our sessions.
Other Services Available
As part of your care, there may be optional costs from services or products recommended outside of Edwards Psychiatry. These can include genetic testing, lab testing, prescriptions, or supplements.
Genetic Testing
If you are completing saliva collection with Genomind, typical cost ranges from $0-$399 depending on insurance. Review their cost and coverage information at: https://genomind.com/cost-and-coverage/
Lab Testing
We partner with Rupa Health to order speciality labs. Amounts vary, depending on which labs you receive, and they will bill you directly. More information is available at: https://www.rupahealth.com/patients
Prescriptions and Supplements
Before filling a prescription or purchasing supplements, we recommend checking with your pharmacy or dispensary for a cost estimate.
Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost before starting services. Under federal law (the No Surprises Act), health care providers must give uninsured or self-pay patients an estimate of expected charges.
We're transparent about all costs from day one. Questions about fees are always welcome, and we'll review pricing options during your free consultation so you can make informed decisions.
Per your rights as a self-pay patient under the No Surprises Act, if your final financial responsibility exceeds our estimate by $400 or more, you have the right to dispute the charges. For more information,
visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
The Real Cost of Quality Mental Health Care
When you look for an "affordable psychiatrist in Seattle," cost matters. Affordability in mental health care includes both what you pay and what you receive.
With out-of-network reimbursement, private pay often costs less than expected. For example, if your insurance reimburses 60% of our $250 medication management session, your cost is $100. That is similar to many copays, with a higher level of care.
Waiting often costs more in the long run. Missed work, strained relationships, and ineffective treatment add up. Many clients tell us they wish they had started sooner.
With
Edwards Psychiatry, you receive providers who listen, flexible scheduling including evenings, timely responses between visits, and treatment plans tailored to your life. This is an investment in care that actually moves you forward.
Questions You Might Have
You're not alone in wondering about these things. Here are honest answers to questions we hear most often.
Why don't you take insurance directly?
Being private-pay allows us to spend more time with you, keep your information truly private, and focus on what you need (not what insurance companies approve).
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt with medical diagnostic and procedure codes that you submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. After each session you can download it from our patient portal and submit it to your insurance company.
How much will insurance reimburse me?
Depends on your plan. Most out-of-network plans reimburse 50-80% of their "allowed amount" after you meet your deductible.
Call your insurance and ask:
"Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?"
"What's my deductible and have I met it?"
How much does ADHD testing cost?
Our ADHD testing is conducted in three parts:
Part I: Psychiatric Evaluation: $500 (initial intake evaluation)
Part II: QbCheck ADHD Test: $250 (computer-based performance test completed at home)
Part III: Interpretation/Treatment Planning: $250 (results review and final recommendations)
Total: $1,000
What's the difference between the psychiatric evaluation and ADHD testing?
The psychiatric evaluation is where we explore more broadly your medical and mental health background. We need to establish care and also want to be sure we're not missing anything prior to referring to testing.
QbCheck ADHD testing gives us objective, performance-based information to help clarify what diagnosis(es) you may qualify for.
What payment methods do you accept?
Zelle (preferred, no fees)
Venmo
Credit/debit cards
HSA/FSA cards
Payment is due at the time of service.
