Private Pay Psychiatry in Seattle
We know talking about money can feel awkward, especially when it comes to health care. You deserve complete transparency about what you'll invest and why we've chosen to be a private pay psychiatry practice in Seattle. This page explains our fee structure and how we make expert mental health care accessible even without insurance.
Why Edwards Psychiatry Chose Private Pay
Private pay allows us to focus on you instead of insurance requirements. We can spend actual time listening, adjusting your care as needed, and responding quickly between visits. Your privacy is more protected, too, with less disclosure of your sensitive health information to insurance companies and their databases.
Staying private pay also allows us to remain a small, specialized practice focused on what we do best: ADHD, anxiety, depression, and comprehensive psychiatric care with a deep understanding of BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and neurodiverse experiences.
Our Pricing Structure
Quality mental health care is an investment in your ability to feel present with your loved ones and thrive at work and home. Here's exactly what our services cost, with no hidden fees or surprises.
Psychiatric Evaluation:
$500 for 60 minutes (in-person or virtual)
All of our services begin with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, except ADHD coaching. This thorough assessment gives you diagnostic clarity about what's actually going on with your brain, whether that's ADHD, anxiety, depression, or something else entirely.
Our first appointment to establish care involves getting to know each other, discussing your current health status, medication history, psychiatric history, medical history, substance use history, developmental history, and social/familial background. Together, we'll formulate a working diagnosis and create an individualized treatment plan which may or may not include medication.
This cost covers the time your provider spends preparing for and documenting your evaluation, even if the face-to-face session does not last the full 60 minutes. Completed electronic intake forms are due at least 24 business hours before your appointment.
ADHD Testing:
$250 for QbCheck test + $250 for interpretation visit
The QbCheck test is completed remotely at home, and the interpretation visit can be done in-person or virtually. This comprehensive testing goes beyond basic questionnaires to give you real answers about whether you have ADHD.
QbCheck ADHD testing is an objective, FDA-approved psychometric test available by provider referral for patients ages 6-60 years old. It helps diagnose ADHD as well as evaluate the efficacy of treatment. An initial psychiatric evaluation must first be completed to establish care and determine if a referral for QbCheck testing is medically appropriate.
This fee covers the time your provider spends ordering, interpreting, and documenting your results, even if the face-to-face session does not last the full 45 minutes.
Genetic Testing Interpretation:
$250 for interpretation visit with your provider
This visit helps you understand your unique genetic makeup and get individualized medication recommendations, ending the guessing game of what might work for your body. The test itself is billed separately through Genomind.
Genetic testing via cheek saliva swab helps provide individualized information regarding which psychiatric medications might fit well with your unique genetic profile. This cost covers the medical interpretation of your test results and the related follow-up visit with your provider (lasting up to 45 minutes).
For more information on the cost of the test itself, please visit: https://www.genomind.com/resources/cost-and-coverage
Medication Management:
$175 for 30 minutes or $250 for 45 minutes (in-person or virtual)
Expert prescribing focused on what works for your body and lifestyle, not one-size-fits-all approaches. We adjust and collaborate with you to find what actually helps.
Psychiatric follow-up visits are any appointments after your initial psychiatric evaluation and usually entail medication management to assess how psychiatric medications are (or are not) working, side effects, refills, and adjustments. You and your provider can decide together which session length best fits your needs.
This fee also includes your provider's time spent preparing for your visit, documenting your care, and managing tasks like ordering medications, even if the face-to-face portion doesn't last the full scheduled time.
ADHD Individual Coaching:
$150 for 60 minutes (virtual)
Practical, personalized coaching to help you work with your ADHD brain and build habits that actually stick, guided by someone who understands how your brain works.
ADHD coaching is a collaborative, strengths-based service that helps you develop practical tools to stay organized, follow through, and feel more in control of your day-to-day life. Whether you're struggling with time management, focus, motivation, or getting unstuck, coaching can provide structure, accountability, and strategies tailored to how your brain works.
Please note: Coaching services are offered by an independent contractor and are not licensed mental health services. Because coaching is not classified as a licensed healthcare service, HSA/FSA funds cannot be used to pay for these sessions.
ADHD Group Coaching:
$75 for 60 minutes (virtual)
Safe, inclusive virtual coaching groups that provide skill-building, peer connection, and practical strategies for managing ADHD in daily life.
Groups offer a supportive and empowering space where individuals come together to explore a shared topic, gain insight, and grow through connection. Each group is thoughtfully designed with a unique focus, eligibility criteria, and schedule to best meet the needs of its members.
Forms and Letters:
Depends on complexity
Brief forms/letters: $75-$100
Complex forms/letters: $150-$175 (requires appointment)
Complex, provider-completed forms and letters (including work/school accommodations, leave of absence paperwork, and gender-affirming surgery letters) will be completed either together during an appointment or billed at the standard rate based on the provider's service type.
Payment Options:
We accept Zelle (our preferred option), Venmo, credit/debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is due at time of service.
Cancellation Policy:
As many people struggle to find care, it is crucial to give 48 business hours' notice if you are unable to make your appointment so your slot can be given to someone else in need.
We require 48 business hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or no-shows are charged $150.
Important: Our business hours are Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and holidays. Messages received outside of business hours are considered received on the next business day. For example, if your appointment is scheduled for Monday at 1 PM and you need to cancel or reschedule, please be sure we receive notice by Thursday at 1 PM to remain within our policy.

Out-of-Network Benefits and Superbills
Being private pay does not prevent you from using your insurance. Many clients use out-of-network benefits or HSA/FSA funds to help cover services.
After each session, you can download a superbill from the Tebra Patient Portal. This itemized receipt includes the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurance company needs for out-of-network reimbursement. Depending on your plan, you may receive partial or full reimbursement for psychiatric services.
We are experienced in coding according to insurance rules and we work with insurance companies to advocate for prescription coverage, including prior authorizations and appeals when needed.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR BENEFITS
Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
- Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
- What percentage does my plan cover for out-of-network
- psychiatric services?
- Do I have a deductible for out-of-network care, and have I met it?
- Is there a limit on how many sessions are covered per year?
- Do I need a referral or prior authorization?
It is your responsibility to check with your insurance to see if you may qualify for partial or full reimbursement of our sessions. To access superbills (itemized receipts), please log in to the Tebra patient portal at:
Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost before starting services. Under federal law (the No Surprises Act), health care providers must give uninsured or self-pay patients an estimate of expected charges.
We're transparent about all costs from day one. Questions about fees are always welcome, and we'll review pricing options during your free consultation so you can make informed decisions. No surprises, no hidden costs.
Per your rights as a self-pay patient under the No Surprises Act, if your final financial responsibility exceeds our estimate by $400 or more, you have the right to dispute the charges. For more information,
visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
The Real Cost of Quality Mental Health Care
When you look for an "affordable psychiatrist in Seattle," cost matters. Affordability in mental health care includes both what you pay and what you receive.
With out-of-network reimbursement, private pay often costs less than expected. For example, if your insurance reimburses 60% of our $250 medication management session, your cost is $100. That is similar to many copays, with a higher level of care.
You receive providers who listen, flexible scheduling including evenings, timely responses between visits, and treatment plans tailored to your life. This is an investment in care that actually moves you forward.
Waiting often costs more in the long run. Missed work, strained relationships, and ineffective treatment add up. Many clients tell us they wish they had started sooner.
For ADHD, we also offer group coaching at $75 per session to provide expert support at a more accessible price point.
Other Services Available
As part of your care, there may be optional costs from services or products provided outside of Edwards Psychiatry. These can include genetic testing, lab testing, prescriptions, or supplements.
Genetic Testing: If you are completing saliva collection with Genomind, typical cost ranges from $0-$399 depending on insurance. Review their cost and coverage information at: https://genomind.com/cost-and-coverage/
Lab Testing (Rupa Health): We partner with Rupa Health to order speciality labs. Amounts vary, depending on which labs you receive, and they will bill you directly. More information is available at https://www.rupahealth.com/patients
Prescriptions and Supplements: Before filling a prescription or purchasing supplements, we recommend checking with your pharmacy or dispensary for a cost estimate.
You are responsible for confirming costs and insurance coverage directly with these outside providers. Edwards Psychiatry cannot guarantee insurance coverage or reimbursement for outside services.

Questions You Might Have
You're not alone in wondering about these things. Here are honest answers to questions we hear most often.
Why don't you take insurance directly?
Being private-pay allows us to spend more time with you (60-minute evaluations, not 15-minute med checks), keep your information truly private, and focus on your needs, not what insurance companies approve. You pay upfront, then submit for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits.
What is a superbill?
A detailed receipt with medical codes that you submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. After each session, download it from our patient portal and submit it to your insurance company.
How much will insurance reimburse me?
Depends on your plan. Most out-of-network plans reimburse 50-80% of their "allowed amount" after you meet your deductible.
Call your insurance and ask:
"Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?"
"What's my deductible and coinsurance percentage?"
"What's your allowed amount for CPT code 90791?"
We can't predict your coverage, but most clients with good out-of-network benefits get $100-175 back per session.
How much does ADHD testing cost?
Psychiatric Evaluation (required first): $500
60-minute clinical assessment and diagnosis
QbCheck ADHD Test (optional): $250
Computer-based test completed at home
QbCheck Interpretation: $250
Results review and final recommendations
Total with testing: $1,000
Many people start with just the evaluation ($500) and add testing if needed.
What's the difference between evaluation and testing?
Evaluation ($500): Clinical interview where we diagnose ADHD through conversation. Most people only need this.
Testing ($500 additional): Adds objective computer data. Recommended if you need documentation for accommodations or want the most thorough assessment.
What payment methods do you accept?
Zelle (preferred, no fees)
Venmo
Credit/debit cards
HSA/FSA cards
Payment is charged 24 hours before your appointment.
